Zachary Brown

Exercise Physiologist

Where did you study?

University of Wollongong

What inspired you to become an exercise physiologist?

I have always had a passion for movement and exercise but also had a lot of injuries and other challenges growing up that often prevented me from being able to do the things I wanted. I witnessed this in a number of different people in my life of all ages and wanted to be able to help them (any myself) get back to doing activities without being hindered by injury or illness.

What are your areas of expertise and special interest?

I like to believe that I can handle anything that our clients may have, but my primary areas of expertise are musculoskeletal injury and cardiovascular rehabilitation. I have a keen interest in overuse injuries in sports and endurance exercise and also strength based exercise for older population clients.

What's your favourite part of working with clients?

I love being able to empower clients to better improve their health and abilities through movement and exercise. It is always fantastic when I am able to see a client’s attitudes, confidence and belief in themselves develop throughout their sessions.

What's one piece of advice you give to almost every client?

There is no perfect program for every person and every injury. The best plan for you is the one that you can do consistently that will move you towards your goals.

How do you stay active and healthy in your own life?

I often struggle for motivation without clear goals set ( I know health professionals aren’t supposed to admit that but its true!). Since stopping cricket and AFL due to time and injuries I have been participating in triathlons to keep me motivated to exercise. Why be bad at one sport when you can be bad at three!

What's something people might be surprised to learn about you?

I studied engineering for three years before switching to exercise science – a very necessary change as I am the least handy person I know!
