Hydrotherapy
Hydrotherapy, or aquatic-based exercise, is a safe and effective treatment option used by Accredited Exercise Physiologists to help clients manage pain, rebuild strength, improve mobility, and begin their journey back to better movement.
At Brown & Ross Exercise Physiology, we offer individualised hydrotherapy sessions in a supportive and accessible environment — ideal for those seeking a gentle, low-impact starting point before progressing to land-based exercise (if appropriate). All sessions are supervised by an Exercise Physiologist, ensuring your safety, comfort, and progress.
Who Is Hydrotherapy For?
Hydrotherapy is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels. It’s particularly effective for those:
-
Recovering from injury or surgery
-
Managing chronic conditions such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, or chronic pain
-
With neurological or musculoskeletal limitations
-
With balance or mobility concerns
-
Seeking a gentler way to improve strength, endurance, and function
Whether you're funded through NDIS, WorkCover, Medicare, DVA, private health insurance, or simply self-funding, we can tailor your treatment to suit your needs and goals.

Why Start in the Water?
The water provides buoyancy and resistance, reducing the load on your joints while still allowing your muscles to work. This creates the ideal environment for:
-
Pain-free movement
-
Gentle strength building
-
Improved flexibility and circulation
-
Confidence with balance and walking
-
Reduced risk of falls and injury
Many clients begin hydrotherapy as a foundation to build physical capacity and confidence before transitioning to land-based programs. Others continue long-term aquatic treatment based on their specific needs and preferences, we’ll support your journey either way.

Our Hydrotherapy Pool
Sessions are conducted onsite at Mount Annan Leisure Centre, a fully accessible facility offering:
-
Heated pool at 32°C for optimal muscle and joint comfort
-
Gradual depth change up to 1.1m — perfect for walking, balance, float-assisted exercises and weight bearing progressions.
-
Wheelchair ramp entry, aquatic wheelchairs, and pool hoists for easy and safe access
-
Accessible change rooms and showers for individuals with mobility needs
Sessions can run for 30, 45, or 60 minutes, and are available as 1-on-1 or small group formats, depending on your goals and preferences.

Pathway to Progression
Your treatment plan is tailored around your abilities, goals, and funding supports. For many clients, hydrotherapy provides an important stepping stone that:
-
Reduces pain and fear of movement
-
Builds strength, balance, and confidence
-
Transitions gradually to land-based exercise, either through alternating water/land sessions or shifting fully when ready
We also support those who prefer to remain in water-based therapy longer term, providing flexible, goal-driven care every step of the way.
